The Toyota Corolla has regained the top spot in the compact segment thanks to the 23,822 customers who took one home last month. The Honda Civic, which sold 21,881 units during January, falls back to second-place following a record sales month during December 2012.

The Ford Focus didn’t crest the 20,000 mark, but still took third place with 16,161 total sales. Fourth and fifth place went to the Chevrolet Cruze and Hyundai Elantra with 14,524 and 12,174 units sold, respectively. Volkswagen managed to sell 10,522 copies 2013 Honda Civic Si Sedan front left view 300x187 imageof its Jetta sedan and wagon, though we’re curious to see how the newly launched hybrid variant will affect the four-door’s sales performance through 2013.

The new Nissan Sentra sold 8979 units during January and the Mazda3 sedan took eighth place, with 8074 copies sold. Completing our chart are the Dodge Dart (including 13 units of the discontinued Caliber), the Subaru Impreza, and the Kia Forte.
