image-669
Ford and General Motors are teaming up to develop nine- and ten-speed automatic transmissions that should launch in time for the 2017 model year. “The collaboration enables both automakers to design, develop, engineer, test, validate, and deliver these new transmissions for their vehicles faster and at lower cost than if each company worked independently,” the companies said in a joint release. The nine-speed will mate with transverse (front-wheel-drive) engines and the ten-speed will serve longitudinal (rear-wheel-drive) applications. ...

UAW Sees Second Consecutive Year of Membership Gains

image-677
The past five years have not been kind to the United Auto Workers. With a membership about one-fifth of what it was at its peak in the 1970s, the organization’s members were forced to make sacrifices in wages and benefits as part of the massive restructuring of General Motors and Chrysler in 2009. But the past two years have been rare bright spots for the UAW. After membership increasing 1.1 percent in 2011, the union’s ...

With 20,668 units sold in February, the CR-V barely took the runner-up position while the ...

These companies have pledged to introduce a plan for workplace charging in at least one major company location. The DOE says the ultimate goal over the ...

image-471
Things heated up between the Honda CR-V and Ford Escape a couple months ago, as the compact crossovers battled for year-to-date sales supremacy. Now that the dust has settled, we can see that the CR-V dominated the segment with 281,652 units sold. The Escape was about 20,000 units behind, but we’ll be interested in seeing how the new 2013 Toyota RAV4 shakes up the segment. Meanwhile, the Chevrolet Equinox was third best-selling CUV in 2012 with ...

Ford’s no stranger to streaming audio and music: its Sync AppLink system already connects to smartphones to play ...
