On the second episode of Roadkill, Hot Rod magazine’s David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan headed to Big Lake, Alaska in a 1968 Ford Ranchero, aka the “Raunchero,” for some ice racing. The duo never made it on that trip, but after parking the Raunchero for more than a year, Freiburger and Finnegan reattempt their ice racing trip in the Raunchero on this episode of Roadkill.
Despite the car’s refreshed 363 cubic inch small-block Ford stroker engine, the trip is not without setbacks. The distributor and carburetor need several adjustments along the way and the oil is topped off at each fuel stop. Shortly before reaching the U.S.-Canadian border, they plug an air compressor into the cigarette lighter and route the hose to the rear air shocks to keep them full without stopping. At the Canadian border, the duo and the suspicious looking Raunchero are detained and searched before being allowed across. Just inside Canada, they have issues with the engine starter.
While the duo experienced several setbacks during the drive, they remained upbeat. Does the 1968 Ford Ranchero take Freiburger and Finnegan all the way to Big Lake, Alaska on their second attempt? Check out the video below to find out and don’t forget to revisit their first attempt with the original Roadkill video below.
