Ford Recalls 389,378 Vehicles For Fuel Leaks, Shock Risk, Faulty Steering

2013 Ford Explorer, Taurus, Flex, Fusion; 2013 Lincoln MKS, MKT, MKZ

The Problem: A module within the fuel tank could leak; customers might smell fuel or see it leaking onto the ground. Although no fires or injuries have been reported thus far, Ford cautions that flames or heat near the leak could cause a fire.

The Fix: Ford will replace the fuel tank delivery module free of charge.

Number Of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 389,151 cars in the U.S., plus approximately 76,000 overseas.

2013 Lincoln MKZ

The Problem: In extremely cold conditions (below -20ºF), the insulation on the electrical cord for the optional engine block heater could crack. That means that live, 120-volt wiring would be exposed, potentially shocking customers. Ford doesn’t have any reports so far of electric shocks from this problem.

The Fix: Ford will replace the electrical cord on vehicles with engine block heaters.

Number Of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 107 2013 Lincoln MKZ sedans in the U.S., and 393 cars in Canada.

2013 Ford Fusion

The Problem: Some Ford Fusion sedans were built without a retaining clip that holds the steering gears in place. Without the clip, the steering system could fail, preventing the driver from controlling the car. No injuries have been reported so far.

The Fix: Ford will inspect the cars and replace the retaining clip.

Number Of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 20 2013 Ford Fusion sedans in the U.S., of which five have already been repaired. In addition, two more affected cars are in Mexico and one is in Canada.
