All-New Ford Ranger

Ford Motor Company will be accelerating the introduction of new products for Australian customers, transforming its business operations to improve sales, service, and create a more efficient and profitable business structure. The plan opens up the possibility of importing more U.S. built models, such as the Mustang, Explorer, and others.

The downside, at least for Australian enthusiasts, is that local manufacturing of the Ford Falcon sedan and its variants will stop in October 2016, and the automaker is working with the 1,200 employees that will be affected, and will provide support to them for the next three years. This decision was fueled by increasingly challenging market conditions, such as market fragmentation and manufacturing costs.

“All of us at Ford remain committed to our long history of serving Australian customers with the very best vehicles that deliver cutting edge technology at an affordable cost. Unfortunately, due to challenging market conditions we are unable to do that longer-term while continuing to manufacture locally,” said Bob Graziano, president and CEO of Ford Australia, in a recent interview.

Ford plans to keep its presence in Australia, with more than 200 dealers nationwide, as well as a strong commitment to support the communities where the company operates. Australia is one of four product development hubs for the company, and this team has been responsible for the design, engineering, and testing of vehicles like the Ford Ranger and Figo.

The automaker plans to increase the number of new vehicles offered to Australian customers by 30 percent by 2016. “We have a range of projects under way to significantly enhance our customer’s experience with Ford. This includes one of the only programs in Australia that provides a capped price on all servicing costs for seven years,” commented Graziano.
