Camaro 1LE vs. Mustang GT, LS Engine Swaps Debated on Wide Open Throttle

Jessi Lang and other Motor Trend hosts answer questions about the Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE/Ford Mustang GT Track Pack comparison on the latest Wide Open Throttle episode. Additionally, Angus MacKenzie, Jonny Lieberman, Ed Loh, and Scott Mortara discuss the future of autonomous cars and talk about our recent top 10 list, asking which cars should have a modern small-block Chevy V-8 under hood.

Wide Open Throttle Roundtable 2 image 10 300x187 imageThe hosts begin by answering the most frequently asked question about Lieberman’s Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE vs. Ford Mustang GT Track Pack Head 2 Head video: Why not drive the Mustang Boss 302? Mortara mentions that Ford wouldn’t send a Boss 302 for the comparison (instead sending a Mustang GT with the Track Pack), partly because production of the car is ending. Although the hosts are impressed with how well the Mustang’s live rear axle performs, it is still the handicap that contributed to the Camaro’s win.

Next, the discussion moves on to the future of autonomous cars specifically the Audi A6 prototype for piloted driving. The hosts discuss how the technology along with vehicle-to-vehicle communication used on the highway could alleviate traffic congestion and minor collisions – the technology might not necessarily be a terrible development for enthusiasts. Finally, the hosts wrap up the episode by talking about the virtues of GM’s modern LS Series small-block V-8 and some vehicles we’d like to see with the engine upgrade.
