Rumors Video Roundup: Peugeot Car vs. Bike, Battle of the Z Cars, and Classic Cars in Cuba

image-653
In this week’s Rumors Video Roundup, we give out a variety of different videos, and two comparisons, one of classic versus modern sports car, and another comparing a car versus a bicycle. We also take a sneak peek at the coming 2014 Ford Fiesta ST, and see if it lives up to the promise of its bigger brother, the excellent Ford Focus ST. Infiniti CEO Johan De Nysschen talks about the future of the brand, ...

Behind the Wheel: 2013 Ford Focus ST

image-867
America hasn’t made a good sport compact in a few years. The last one worth remembering was the Chevrolet Cobalt SS. Before that, the SVT Ford Focus was something we could have pride in, complete with a 170-horsepower, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. Its life was cut short in the U.S., but the little hot hatch kept evolving in Europe where sporty hatchbacks are ...

MyFord Touch getting buttons and knobs back to counter criticisms

image-725
Ford deserves credit for being a front-runner in offering advanced infotainment technology with its Sync and MyFord Touch systems, but continued consumer complaints over its confusing touchscreen interface and capacitive controls has made the automaker relent. The Wall Street Journal reports that physical buttons and knobs for controlling tuning and volume will be coming back to Ford vehicles equipped with the controversial infotainment system. The 2013 F-150 with MyFord Touch gives us a glimpse of what ...

RelayRides buys car-sharing competitor Wheelz for keyless technology

image-746
Think of this as a rare occasion where a General Motors collaborator is providing Ford with a little cash. A GM partner, peer-to-peer car-sharing operator RelayRides, is buying competitor Wheelz for an undisclosed amount, GigaOM reports. It's a bit of a stretch, but Ford is connected to Wheelz. The draw for RelayRides is Wheelz's so-called DriveBox technology, which facilitates car entry without owner and renter having to go through the trouble of swapping keys. An additional ...

2014 Ford Fiesta ST

Concentrated ST Formula Proves Just As Potent I'm not the jealous type... usually. But I will fully admit to being somewhat of a Pouty Polly when I read executive editor Chris Paukert's report after driving the then-new 2013 Ford Focus ST through the impossibly pretty southern French Alps region last June. I feel like a broken record saying this yet again, but hot hatchbacks hold a special place in my heart. And while I'm always giddy ...

image-586
To keep up with the increasing demands for new cars, Ford is cutting back on their traditional two-week summer shutdowns at some of their factories. Ford says this cut back should add an additional 40,000 vehicles. The affected assembly plants include: Chicago, Illinois Cuautitlan, Mexico Hermosillo, Mexico Louisville, Kentucky Wayne, Michigan Oakville, Ontario Along with the cutback in the summer shutdown, Ford will be running three-crew or four-crew patterns at several plants, to help build 200,000 vehicles more than planned. The plants ...

Ford, Chrysler Reducing Summer Shutdowns To Meet Demand

image-632
To keep up with increasing demand for new cars, Ford and Chrysler will cut their traditional two-week summer shutdowns at some factories. In addition, Ford will run several plants at full speed to build an extra 200,000 vehicles this summer. Ford says that reducing the normal two-week summer shutdown at six assembly plants will add the equivalent of 40,000 extra new cars. Affected assembly plants comprise those in Chicago, Illinois; Cuautitlan, Mexico; Hermosillo, Mexico; Louisville, Kentucky; ...

Ford, GM Co-Developing Nine and Ten-Speed Automatic Transmissions

image-669
Ford and General Motors are teaming up to develop nine- and ten-speed automatic transmissions that should launch in time for the 2017 model year. “The collaboration enables both automakers to design, develop, engineer, test, validate, and deliver these new transmissions for their vehicles faster and at lower cost than if each company worked independently,” the companies said in a joint release. The nine-speed will mate with transverse (front-wheel-drive) engines and the ten-speed will serve longitudinal (rear-wheel-drive) applications. ...

Project Ugly Horse: Part IX

image-718
One Step at a Time Nearly every flavor of exotic driveline has been shoved into the ubiquitous Ford at some point or another. Chuck Schwynoch had been patiently listening to my ramblings on the other end of the phone for a solid half hour. I'm not too big of a man to know when to ask for help, and at this point, I desperately needed some assistance. The truth is, working on a machine like a Fox ...

Ford starts Focus Electric production in Europe, not updating EV for 2014 MY

image-715
So far this year (through the end of May), Ford sold 723 Focus Electrics in the US. Not a whole lot – especially compared to Nissan, which sold more than ten times that many Leafs (7,614). What's interesting is that Ford isn't going to immediately make a bunch of changes for the 2014 model year to try and push that number up. Not according to a report in The Detroit News, anyway. Nancy Gioia, Ford's director ...
