2014 Ford Fusion 1.5-Liter Engine Specifications Confirmed

Ford has released more details on a new engine addition for the 2014 Fusion, as well as detailing other trim and equipment upgrades to the midsize sedan.

The biggest change for the 2014 Ford Fusion is the addition of a 1.5-liter EcoBoost turbo-four engine. It will replace the 1.6-liter EcoBoost as the Fusion’s volume engine, but returns better fuel economy. Ford confirmed that the new 1.5-liter engine will produce 178 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque, and will only be mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The 1.6-liter EcoBoost is rated at 178 hp and 184 lb-ft, but starting in 2014, is only offered with a manual transmission. Ford says that currently 51 percent of all Fusion sedans are sold with an EcoBoost engine.

The 2014 Ford Fusion also gets a long list of new equipment. The rear-seat inflatable seatbelt airbags, which debuted on the 2011 Explorer, become optional on the 2014 Fusion. The belts help reduce injuries to rear-seat passengers in an accident. There are two new exterior paint colors, Dark Side and Sunset, as well as a new Dune interior upholstery color for Fusion SE models. The Titanium trim level can now be equipped with an Interior Appearance Package that adds Brick Red leather seats and door inserts, along with upgraded floor mats.

Other new options include cooled front seats and a heated steering wheel. Buyers who equip a Fusion SE with the Luxury Package will now also nab push-button start, which was previously relegated to higher trim levels like the Titanium. Nineteen-inch wheels shod in summer performance tires also join the configuration list for the 2014 Ford Fusion.

Pricing for the 2014 Ford Fusion, as well as fuel economy for the new 1.5-liter engine, have yet to be announced.
