What’s New for 2014
The 2014 Ford Fiesta ST is an all-new model.
Building on its success with its performance-oriented Focus ST model, Ford will introduce a Fiesta ST for the 2014 model year. With a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine making an estimated 197 horsepower and 214 pound-feet of torque, the 2014 Ford Fiesta ST should be the hottest of the small hot hatches. That kind of power beats similar subcompacts like the Chevrolet Sonic RS, the Fiat 500 Abarth and the Mini Cooper S.
With performance-tuned suspension and steering, a six-speed manual transmission and electronic torque vectoring to aid high-speed handling in corners, the Fiesta ST promises a dynamic character very distinct from the more sedate Fiesta sedan and hatch. Yet despite the core performance tendencies, Ford estimates the new hatch will return 34 mpg.
The 2014 Ford Fiesta ST will certainly look the part, sporting 17-inch wheels, a unique egg-crate grille, a rear diffuser and dual exhaust tips. Inside, expect trim-fitting Recaro sport seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a sunroof, an eight-speaker audio system and a 6.5-inch touchscreen to interface with the MyFord Touch infotainment system. We’ve been critical of this system even in its current iteration, but Ford maintains the ST will feature an upgraded version.
Ford hasn’t announced an on-sale date for the 2014 Fiesta ST hatchback, but we expect it to arrive at dealers by the end of summer. Check back for a full review of the new Fiesta ST, including specs, driving impressions and buying advice as it becomes available.
