Ford, GM Co-Developing Nine and Ten-Speed Automatic Transmissions

Ford and General Motors are teaming up to develop nine- and ten-speed automatic transmissions that should launch in time for the 2017 model year. “The collaboration enables both automakers to design, develop, engineer, test, validate, and deliver these new transmissions for their vehicles faster and at lower cost than if each company worked independently,” the companies said in a joint release. 2014 Ford Fiesta SFE Hits 41 MPG Highway

Minor updates to its aerodynamic components and powertrain calibration allows the 2014 Ford Fiesta to achieve 41 mpg on the highway, with the optional Super Fuel Economy package. That’s up from 40 mpg for the 2013 model; the Fiesta SFE’s city rating also inches up from 29 to 30 mpg.
