Feature Flick: Watch a 2014 Ford Fiesta ST on a Hot Lap

image-302
We’ve always though that the U.S. could use more pint-sized pocket rockets, and Ford seems to agree. The Blue Oval’s 2014 Fiesta ST will be joining the Fiat 500 Abarth here in the U.S. later this year. Ahead of its debut, Ford has just released a quick video of the new Fiesta ST on a hot lap at its Belgian test facility. The 2014 Fiesta ST is powered by a 1.6-liter turbocharged I-4 that makes ...

2013 Ford Focus Electric Earns Five-star Overall Safety Score from NHTSA

image-231
With the 2013 Ford Focus Electric contributing 81 sales to the total, January deliveries of electric vehicles in this country reached 4,376 units. Now, neither of those totals may seem very impressive at first glance, but the latter mark represented a jump in volume of more than 270 percent as compared to January of 2012, and the former number should begin climbing rapidly thanks to the latest news from the Blue Oval—and the National Highway ...

Would a Mustang-based Lincoln look like this?

image-381
Designer Josiah LaCalla has taken a stab at what a Ford Mustang-based Lincoln model might look like with the Continental Mark X1 concept. Make no mistake, Ford's luxury arm has made it abundantly clear that it won't be pursuing any new products outside of volume models, which means a flashy halo grand tourer like the one you see here isn't in the cards. LaColla used the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG as a basis for his creation, ...

Toyota tops 2012 recalls in volume, Ford in number of campaigns

image-377
Toyota dominated new car sales last year, with its Camry topping out at just over 400,000 units, but the automaker also led a much less desirable category in 2012: recalls. According to The Detroit News, Toyota's 5.3 million recalled units was enough to give it the highest recall volume last year in the US, giving the brand this unfortunate distinction for the third time in the last four years. Overall, 16.2 million vehicles (including RVs ...

These are your top 10 best-selling vehicles of 2012

image-387
The best-selling vehicle in all the land last year was, of course, the Ford F-Series pickup. If our math is correct, that makes its string of sales crowns 31-years long. While last year's performance of 645,316 units sold is far from the 900,000+ sold in 2001, 2004 and 2005, it was still enough to best the F-150's main competitor and second-best-selling vehicle of 2012, the Chevrolet Silverado, plus that truck's twin, the GMC Sierra, combined. This ...

Project Ugly Horse: Part IV

image-297
Bits and Pieces The asphyxiation-blue plastic of my dash looked like it would snap under a crass tone. The line between cleverness and idiocy is a blurry one. After reading a number of write-ups on the best way to swap pedal boxes in a Fox Body Ford Mustang, I decided to eschew common wisdom and blaze a new trail of my own. Traditionally, putting three pedals where once there were two involves pulling the entirety of the ...

Report: Ford Recalling 6500 Focuses, C-Maxes, and Escapes for Locks

image-275
According to The Detroit News, Ford is recalling 6534 units of the 2013 Focus, C-Max, and Escape models. The recall concerns faulty child locks on the left rear door, which could potentially fail. The Problem: The report states that “the child lock may not engage when the operator uses normal turning force to activate the child lock, and the operator may incorrectly believe the child lock is engaged.” The issue stems from a mixed stock ...

image-394
Ford has announced it will invest $773 million in its facilities across Southeast Michigan. The funds will go toward new equipment and bolstering manufacturing capacity at six plants. The plan is part of a larger move to invest a total of $6.2 billion in the US by 2015. All told, the latest round of upgrades should help create 2,350 new hourly jobs while allowing Ford to keep a further 3,240 hourly jobs in place. The ...
