2013-Ford-Mustang-GT-Supercharged-Cornering

The annual SEMA show is a motley mix of the awesome, bizarre, outrageous and fragile. The saying that some show cars are built with bubble gum and zip ties isn’t far from the truth, and some of these cars, if subjected to any kind of hard driving, literally crumble under the pressure. But in a vote of confidence in its 2013 Ford Mustang SEMA show car, Mickey Thompson lent its Mustang to the Hot Rod Unlimited staff to put the pedal to the metal, and put the pony car through its paces at the 2013 Run to the Coast event in Irvine, California.

Even with an Edelbrock E-Force supercharger shoving boost into the Mustang GT’s already high 11:1 compression, the car performed reliably, and exhibited no signs of stress or compromised reliability. But just as important as the massively powerful engine under the hood, which delivered a stout 575 hp to the wheels on a chassis dyno, was Mickey Thompson’s Street Comp package, which consists of specially-selected wheels and tires, and a lowering kit. But this package was built for more than just looking good, and Hot Rod wanted to put the dashing debutante to the test to see if she could boogie on the track.

The car gripped and handled like a charm, placing in the top third of event participants with Hot Rod’s Jesse Kiser behind the wheel. Watch Jesse as he drives the Mustang through the speed-stop challenge, autocross and road race.  Stay tuned to the Motor Trend Channel for fresh enthusiast video content, updated regularly.
